When was the last time you adjusted your wristwatch?

Your wristwatch is a high precision time measuring instrument. If it wasn't for the time difference between all receivers of this newsletter our watches would show the same time…

Or would they really!?

If all of you should report what time it is, at the same moment, the result would be a deviation of most probably ± 10 minutes. But if we all before doing so adjusted the watches according to the national time references we would be within ± 1 minute or less. The difference of ± 10 minutes is not much you might say but if time was our business it would, as for any pilot, ship captain, stock broker or even when we celebrate the new year!

This short watch story shows how important it is that your instruments are calibrated when analysing your measurements, your production, comparing values or sharpen the production limits. For those of you that wear radio controlled watches and think that this story is not of your concern, a short comment: A radio controlled watch shows very accurate readings because it is calibrated several times per day…
